Two new sitcoms to LOL @ :)

How’s that for teen-speak?! :P

I must confess I gravitate towards a drama, or thriller, or procedural… generally comedy last, if I’m being honest. I can’t remember a comedy I would want to see weekly as much as say, Scrubs or How I Met Your Mother (well, a couple of seasons ago) so I didn’t really give a new sitcoms a go. Let’s not even discuss 2 and a half ManWhores. This season though, I have two whole-hearted sitcom recommendations for you. A must see – especially after four episodes.

First up, Whitney. What sets this apart is that its actually filmed in front of a live audience; how very 90s, right?! Whitney Cummings (creator extraordinaire) plays the lead, and is a very dry, tomboy in a long term relationship with Alex (played by facial-hair-fan Chris D’Elia) who is the antithesis of romance and leaving a trail of destruction in her wake. Okay, perhaps a bit dramatic, but an example is how she tucks into a cupcake at a wedding. Only.. that cupcake is part of the wedding ‘cake’ not yet introduced to the bride and groom. The pilot itself is a bit clunky, but I can honestly say its really found its groove now with the following episodes with Whitney and her boyfriend having the most hilarious, awkward yet natural banter I’ve seen in a while. The supporting cast needs a bit of work, but Whitney more than makes up for it.

Next up is 2 Broke Girls; actually created by Whitney Cummings &  Michael Patrick King (Sex & the City) , starring Kat Dennings (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, 40 Year Old Virgin) and Beth Behrs (relatively unknown) as opposites who inadvertently attract. Broke, sassy waitress Max and rich girl gone broke Caroline who balance each other’s quirks out. Whilst this sounds like its been done before; Whitney Cummings’ writing and voice is heard through Kat Dennings, and she just nails it every time. The one liners by Dennings is delivered so bitingly, so to Caroline’s princess coming to terms with being poor, a little thing such as visiting her first Goodwill store is priceless.

These two shows have made me actually LOL, out loud, not just a straight-lipped smile and half-chuckle. Let me know what you think J

YES 2 BROKE GIRLS! Glad you’ve seen it. I laughed outloud (sometimes rare) at the last episode when they got on the train with the furs.

Putting in the recommendation you grab MTV’s show Awkward and The Fades. The Fades isn’t a comedy but there’s an Abed like character on it and some awesome pop culture references in it that I know you’ll love.
