The Glee Project!
Just because a gleeful project such as this needs a lil bit of exclamation. This doesn’t disappoint (unlike, Glee season 2)
To further add to the Glee saturation, is the Glee Project. Created by Glee’s own creator Ryan Murphy; its an exercise in preparing the audience for when (and just announced) Lea Michele and Cory Monteith won’t be returning for season 4. New cast members, new Glee cast members will be needed. What better way to scour the U.S for performing arts Gleeks to sing, dance and act for a chance to be in a seven-episode arc on the show?!
Brilliantly, the first episode (airing tonight on Channel Eleven at 7.30 AEST) begins without us having to suffer through the auditions. We see the 12 finalists out of thousands upon thousands of auditions; of high school age and slightly above, with a jazz background, or pop background, a dance specialist, or flirty jazzy girl. You get the idea; perfect to add a new dimension, to er.. New Dimensions.
Each week they have a song assignment, ie ‘Theatricality’ and they get a particular song to sing together in front of a visiting Glee cast member (!!) to judge them on, on their voice, performance, dance ability and just standing out. They have to be a triple threat basically. The winner of that challenge then scores one on one time with their special guest – in order to prepare them for a music video performance they have to all be in within the theme of that week. Testing them on acting ability also, and the ability to learn choreography with Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee himself. It is a lot of pressure!
If that’s not enough; then three are selected who didn’t perform the best, or didn’t learn the fastest, or just get the theme like the others, and they are to sing a song selected for them (in their genre/field) and they are to perform it in front of Ryan Murphy, Zach and casting director (and host) Robert Ulrich. Then.. one goes home. Its captivating! Its fun and honestly an insight into just how the casting process perhaps works on a show where its not just acting; but everything. A must see!
