Philosophy – Cinnamon Buns 3-in-1

cinnamon

If you’ve noted any of my previous beauty purchases, the items I’m most enchanted with are generally those that smell like dessert of any sort, or food in general. I’m not a traditional girly girl that loves all manner of floral scents, and could tell you the difference between gardenia and jasmine, or sandalwood and tiger lily. I absolutely couldn’t.

So whenever I’ve seen the ‘Buy me now, look how pretty I am!’ emails from Mecca Cosmetica I perhaps let out a whimper. My shoulders slump, and I wish that Australians weren’t slugged with so many hefty taxes, and that we didn’t have to pay double for cosmetic items. Surprisingly, the latest items I have been eyeing off wasn’t terribly expensive for the volume in each bottle – a Philosophy 3 in 1. Shower gel, shampoo and bubble bath. Sometimes the scents are seasonal, or just in general food/drink inspired. There was a Chocolate trio set sold at Christmas – white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. Imagine that a chocolate shampoo! I believe there may have been a gingerbread-ed (gingerbread-y?) scent at Christmas. There was cranberry lipgloss, spicy pear lipgloss that I know my friend Gnomeangel swears by.. but I had my heart set on a 3 in 1.

When I went to my local Mecca Cosmetica store in Myer, I was like, oh gosh where do I start. Unfortunately, the counter didn’t have as much stock as it seemed the online store seemed to; but I immediately fell in love with the Cinnamon Buns scent. It is not misleading, or doesn’t smell fake in any way. As soon as you unscrew the lid on the bottle, it is like you have just opened the oven door to freshly baked cinnamon buns. At first inhale, I bought it. Well, I had a peek at the Nars blushes, but I was done.

I demolished the tissue paper it was wrapped in on the way home, continually taking in a deep breath of the scent, and feeling all of a sudden hungry, and anyone that came to visit would just HAVE to smell it too! Once I took it in the shower, I realised that I had to test it out for its different uses one at a time. First; shower gel. Its consistency is more fitting for the shower gel, very silky but almost gelatinous in a way, and I could ribbon a little bit over my shower puff. Like any shower gel should, it lathered up nicely, and again the scent was delicious, and cinnamon-y. It really left my skin feeling quite moisturised, and soft after rinsing, and then drying myself off. The kicker; after drying off, after dressing and just doing something mundane, the scent still lingers. Not immediately, but every once in a while, there would be a moment where I remembered I had lathered up with a shower gel smelling of cinnamon buns. Not many shower gels have that lasting power.

As a shampoo, it feels beautiful lathered up in my hair and once rinsed out, leaves it still feeling quite silky and not dry/tangly like some ‘novelty’ shampoos do. You know the ones that smell really really good, but can have you reaching for the conditioner really quickly! I haven’t used it as a shampoo often enough to really test its shine, or whether it suited dry, or coloured hair more – but it has totally won me over when I’m sick of the normal ‘this will make your hair clean’ shampoo. (Though at the moment, also having a love affair with Tigi Bed Head Brunette Goddess shampoo; smells like pure, concentrated honeycomb)

I haven’t yet tried it as a bubble bath; we are in the midst of a water shortage! It can wait..

For a 473ml (16 ounces) bottle at $35AUD – it is well worth it, and will certainly last a long time. (OH, and for reference, it has a recipe for Cinnamon Buns printed on the bottle itself.
