Oscars 2013 Round-Up and Highlights!

Today was a good Monday. I got a day off thanks to Telstra hosting a live Oscars event, and celebrating the launch of their new rewards program called ‘Thanks’. THANKS big time to them for hosting a few bloggers, and columnists at a Gold Class cinema, where we were fed, and spoilt with Moet (beginning at 10am no less). It was fantastic. Seeing the red carpet on a BIG screen, whilst in a recliner, and being able to cheer, and live commentate with fellow fans! Ah! I was in heaven!

So who and what stood out for me?

Jennifer Garner in this gorgeous mulberry wine coloured dress, and along side her, Jessica Chastain (who was my favourite to win tonight) in this bronzey jewelled gown.

Naomi Watts. Absolute stunning in a silvery metallic piece by Armani Prive. A columnist from MX that sat nearby called it amazing ‘robo-boobs’. I had to mention that!

Oh, J-Law! A gorgeous, stunning dress from Valentino (I think?) and.. a little fall as she went up the stairs. And doesn’t it make your heart melt to see our Hugh and Bradley Cooper rush to the rescue? Swoon!

Oh, and I figured you’d want to see the front of the dress…but seriously. Hugh and Bradley. Beautiful men.

Thankyou Kerry Washington for being as flawless as you always are. Love the smoothed layered hair, and the beautiful detailing in the bodice.

How damn adorable 9 year old Best Actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis (I had to imdb that spelling) is and how excited, and ecstatic to hear her film being mentioning, and her own nomination? A name to watch – especially as she was just named as the new ‘Annie’  in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s remake…

An honourable mention. A rare moment too if you will. Kristen Stewart who arrived on crutches, smiling. This dress is pretty swish.

And what can I say, Seth McFarlane. Toilet humour at its finest, and he wasn’t at his peak; but I LOVED his take on Django Unchained being Chris Brown’s idea of a date movie. Seriously. The opions online seemed to be right down the middle, loving or loathing him. I haven’t laughed so much in a monologue though I have to say. And it could have been due to his ‘We Saw Your Boobs’ musical intro. I LOVED the pre-recorded reactions of the actresses he named. What did you think?? Too much?

What were some of your favourite moments throughout the night? Let me know!

ok, here’s my 2 cents: i was (happily) jealous of your Oscars experience all day :), I love love LOVE JGL and his fine, tuxedoed self singing and dancing and apparently photobombing his way thru the event, I dug the RoboBoob frock and thought JLaw was wonderful, even tho I didnt really dig her dress – why does she ALWAYS do the dropped waist thing? Also: I think Kerry Washington is gorgeous, but does anyone else think she’s getting a little Lollipop Head?? SO THIN!

Hi Kimberley – would have loved to have been at the special screening with you – how fun! I always love the Oscars and this year was no exception. Highlights for me:
    - Jennifer Lawrence: wow! Loved Silver Linings Playbook, well deserved,
    - Life of Pi: deserving of all its awards, can’t wait to see it again. Best 3D movie I have ever seen.
    - Les Miserables: all-star cast performance the best of the night. Have you seen the movie yet? Eddie Redmayne is excellent – they all are. Hathaway’s win is well deserved,
    - Seth was fairly restrained I thought – but mostly funny! I didn’t know he was such a good singer – a pleasant surprise.
    - thrilled to see Christoph Waltz win best supporting actor – loved him in Django Unchained – top movie.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts too (love your work!)

    Cheers
    Tony

Well it was the first Oscars I have watched all the way through to the end in a very long time but I cant give any credit for that to Seth, I just don’t find him funny. However I think it would be a tough gig hosting.

So God was out of the acceptance speeches this year and wives and children were in. I’m waiting for the year that all three get a mention.

I loved the cast of Les Miserables coming out an hitting a musical number out of the park, it almost makes me want to watch the film if I didn’t know how incredibly sad the storyline is. It was great to see that Shirley Bassey can still hold a note for so long, it shows that talent can be timeless. Congrats to Adel, now she can add ‘Oscar’ to long list of awards she has. I love Adel’s work but Skyfall isn’t one of my favourite songs.

Loved, loved Naomi Watts’ dress. Jennifer Lawrence’s dress was beautiful too but it sat a little low on her chest. My heart goes out to her for falling but any girl knows how hard it would be to walk in that dress up stairs. And those two boys rushing to her aid just goes to show that chivalry is not dead.

I’m so happy for Ben that Argo won best film. It’s been great to see his career grow over the years since he and Matt won their first Oscar for Good Will Hunting.

Anyways, that’s a little bit from me. I’m glad that you enjoyed the Telstra oscar sceening, it sounds like it would have been a special day.

    H.
