With the recent release of 2 new Viva Glam lipstick shades from MAC Cosmetics, brought to you by Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper I was excited! Loads of celebrities have endorsed the Viva Glam collection, with 100% of proceeds for each VG product going to the MAC AIDS Fund but this was the first time the product was named, and signed by the stars (as in, the tube has an autograph on it). I had to get it! Though, uh.. there was no way I could pull off Gaga’s bubble-gum pink, but I know someone who could..
After Holly’s Gaga lippy review, stick around for my Cyndi review!
Miss Holly, who is my go-to girl on Youtube for makeup tips, and looks bought the Lady Gaga lippy, and here shares her thoughts on just how to wear it.
I’m sure most people will agree when I say: Lady Gaga rocks my socks. So what do I do when I hear that my favourite makeup brand (MAC) + Gaga are collaborating to make a lipstick with profits going towards the MAC AIDS fund? I buy one, that’s what.
Viva Glam Gaga, described as a ‘cool blue-pink shade’ with a ‘high lustre finish’ is the perfect bubblegum-on-acid pink. I like that Lady Gaga didn’t go the obvious route of a completely outrageous almost unwearable black-purple or red.
I love everything about it. The signatured packaging and bullet, the smooth texture, the ease at which the colour can be built from sheer to BAM!
Admittedly, this may be a little harder to wear for certain skin tones, but even if it’s not a staple in your lipstick stash you know you’ve made a guilt-free purchase. Two thumbs up! (Oh, and I hear they’ll be available for about a year, so don’t worry if you run out.)
I’m not one to really be too bold when it comes to a bright lip colour, and as I have what’s known to be ‘pouty lips’ they can be more noticeable. (Or maybe I’m just more self conscious)
So when I went into the MAC Pro store on Chapel St to swatch the shades, straight away I knew the Gaga shade was a resounding ‘no. WAY’ kind of response, but with Cyndi’s watermelon red – whilst I wasn’t as dismissive of it (for me, personally) this shade was bolder than I’m used to. I’ve never worn a true red, so any shade even near it has made me wander to a neutral pink or peachy colour.
As I tested out other shades, it called to me, the swatch on the back of my hand. As it is a ‘lustre’ shade, it is buildable, it can be sheerer than wearing two coats of it as you will, so that’s a plus in my books. I bought it, and its amazing. Its not as scary on my lips as I would have thought, and especially with my olive complexion it brightens up my look without being ‘hello, look at my lips, I’m BRIGHT!’. It can be worn relatively sheerly with a neutral, work-safe look, or bolder with more applications with fluttery eyelashes to rock it. Am. In. LOVE with it!
