This has been the movie I’ve been looking forward to for SUCH a long time. Ever since I saw that teeny clip of the guy singing a bit of Jessie J’s Price Tag in the car.. boy have I wanted to see it! No, no, I just like the fact that Chronicle used the allure of superpowers, but used for general obnoxiousness that had me. Bit like the british show Misfits?

In any case, I happen to be a fan of the found-footage filming thing. I know its hit or miss, and people either love it, hate it, and/or get motion sickness but I think it allows the viewer to immerse themselves further into the experience.

We meet cousins Andrew (Dane DeHaan) and Matt (Alex Russell), hanging out but it seems Matt might just be doing it out of pity. Andrew is a bit of a monotoned loner, who has an abusive father, and a very ill mother. He buys a camera to start filming his daily life, for the most part to ensure he captures evidence of his father’s abuse. But it becomes more, and shields him a little from the ridicule he faces. Matt manages to drag him along to a party, and as he’s crying in the carpark after being picked on again, handsome popular kid and budding politician Steve (Michael B. Jordan) tells him to come with him and Matt, to check out something in the field. Come on! You can film it! It’ll be fun!

And thus, Chronicle really gets into gear. I love this part of the film. Adventurously wandering down into this pit, and finding… well. You never really find out. You see stuff. You hear a lot of stuff. But its never explained. And that’s okay. It’s the aftermath that gets you. It’s the fun they have with moving cars,  making soft toys move in a toy store and building Lego superfast that makes it all worthwhile.. until Andrew takes a wee bit too far. It gets dark. But not in the way that a good guy goes evil. Its a bit more realistic in that, he gets a taste of how the other half lives; then his reality, his world comes back… and chaos ensues. Lots of crushed metal, lots of swerving cars, lots of angry teenage action. Basically, a bunch of fun! SO worth seeing, definitely one to fork out the $$ for. Check out the trailer below (though, its top of the box office in the U.S – SURELY you’ve seen it!)

I walk past this billboard on the way home, and I don’t know, you guys.. does the lady on the far left look amazingly BADLY photoshopped? This is the new film featuring Josh Lawson, currently also in a hot new show with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell (!) and I’m not sure how much of a life this will have in cinemas. But are you seeing what I’m seeing? Something isn’t quite right. Right?

Oh, I LOVE awards season! I feel as if I’m paying more attention to the SAGS, or the BAFTA’s lately, but I love TV and Film coming together for the Golden Globes. Love it! So, generally I always print out a sheet of my picks at work, and squeal or gasp at just who wins, live – at work, since I can’t be home to watch it. Refresh button is my best friend. I’m sharing my picks of who I think should win, and who I think will win. Sadly, I don’t always think the two will match.

Best Drama Series -
HOMELAND – I really really think this has to win. I will be very annoyed if it doesn’t!

Best Comedy or Musical Series -
MODERN FAMILY – I don’t think anything else can come close, and I certainly don’t think Enlightened should even be considered comedy.

Best Motion Picture – Drama -
This one is tricky. My heart is leaning towards MONEYBALL but my head is leaning towards THE IDES OF MARCH.

Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical -
This is another tricky category. Early on, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN was the one with the buzz, and now I’m thinking THE ARTIST. But is THE ARTIST too obscure, and left of centre?

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama -
Goodness. Really tough category. I would like TILDA SWINTON to win, but I’ll say they’ll go MERYL STREEP. Better performance than a movie, I heard?

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama -
With this, I really wish RYAN GOSLING was nominated for DRIVE rather than THE IDES OF MARCH as I think he was much more dynamic in it. So as such, in this category, I think the win will go to BRAD PITT in Moneyball. Because you honestly forget that its Brad MotherFlukin’ Pitt in this performance!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical -
I would love MICHELLE WILLIAMS to win this, even having not seen the film. She just looks amazing in the trailers, the teasers, and I think she was a fabulous pick for the role.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical -
Again, RYAN GOSLING. The suit. Those sunglasses. And the amazing chemistry with Emma Stone. Buuuut I don’t think its this role in this category. For this category, I’d say it goes to JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT in 50/50. A bit of a dramedy if you will, not exactly laugh out loud, but a stand out performance.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama -
I would love OCTAVIA SPENCER to win for her role in THE HELP, but instead my head is leaning towards JESSICA CHASTAIN for her standout role, with less airtime but as much impact.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama -
I’d have to say with this one, it would go to either of two icons – ALBERT BROOKS for his chilling role in DRIVE, or CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER’S sweet, endearing role alongside EWAN MCGREGOR in THE BEGINNERS.

Best Director – Motion Picture -
Oooooh. Tough one, as I have only really seen one film out of this bunch! Argh! So uninformed! I go with the CLOONEY.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama -
CLAIRE DANES. Seriously. I don’t reaaaally like her. I thought she was a homewrecker. (Think Billy Crudup) But she has been brilliant. (You can obviously tell this has been my fave new show this season!)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
DAMIEN LEWIS. Brilliant. Hero, or enemy? Such a magnetic role! If not him, then they’ll give it to BRYAN CRANSTON for Breaking Bad. I can’t stop hearing about that show! Speaking of Cranston, why no recognition for his role in DRIVE? Loved him so much!

Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical -
LAURA LINNEY! But I severely do not want LAURA DERN to win. Severely.

Best Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical -
David Duchovny. What?! Californication is still running? Oh Mulder, what have you DONE?! He will always be Fox to me. I digress! THOMAS JANE for HUNG? I really don’t like anyone in this category!

Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series -
SOFIA VERGARA! She has such great comedic timing, and natural wit – oh, and the accent! (You thought I was going to say boobs didn’t you?)

Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series -
I would like ERIC STONESTREET to win, but I have a feeling PETER DINKLAGE may score again. Tough one, haven’t seen a few of these shows.

Well, I think I got them all (remembered all the major ones I mean) Wish me luck! I mean… wish them luck? They’re just happy to be nominated, right?

A few days, heck a week into the New Year and I have a dream. Nothing too philosophical – but I’ve set a few things in motion, including new shoes (Nike+ running shoes!) and a running coach (gulp). So, I have set my sights on pretty dresses, love and sparkles. Wish me luck :)

You know I’m not a summer person when I start gushing over new flavours of Slurpees at 7/11 right? This is true. I live in Australia and I just struggle during summer. But you know what helps? A nice frosty beverage. Not beer. Ew! But a Slurpee.

This summer, they will have eleven favourite and new flavours featuring my personal fave, Lemon Lime Bitters, as well as Orange Mandarin, Tropical Mango and a world first – Ginger Beer. (Trivia: I’ve never tasted ginger beer in my life, let alone Slurpee-fied. Yes I just made that up)

Not only that, but there are teeshirts! Pictured above are funky pop-art tees created by Sydney based Deb and Brisbane based *Lucks. (Can I be named *Kim with the star in front of my name? HOW COOL!) Basically Deb and *Lucks earned their right to against other graffiti artists on the East Coast. (Represent.)

Its here! The last day of 2011 – and I feel as if movie wise, it was a better year. It was harder to pick ten, so I took advantage of the year being 11, and wham added one in. And even then I worry I’ve forgotten something from the start of the year, but ahhh. Here it is. Click for the list..

Oh. I should say – in NO particular order!

The Help was such an inspiring, sad yet heartwarming and the ultimate message is that everyone has a story.

I’ve now seen the Muppets twice – yes, it comes out here in Australia in January but I was lucky enough to attend a media screening. Make that two. And will no doubt see it again. Fun, gleeful, and just happy.

Colombiana was such a surprise, a sleek thriller with a sexy and sleek heroine, out for vengeance. Fast paced and brilliantly shot.

I could compare this to Friday Night Lights (the TV show) – its not a film about baseball, but it revolves around it. Here, the magic is that you forget its Brad Pitt. He immerses himself in the role, and its beautiful.

I loved young Magneto and Professor X. Loved young mutants, and the action and imo – best X Men of the series.

I didn’t think I could be more scared, on round 3 – but I feel as if this combines the type of scares from movie 1 and 2. I can honestly say I haven’t heard a whole cinema scream the way it did here! LOVED this!

Whilst Bridesmaids is hilarious (and just outside of my top 11) I have rewatched this and enjoy it , and the soundtrack every time. Timberlake and Kunis have amazing chemistry.

The most intense film in recent years, easily. Tilda Swinton owns this role, but the magnetic anti-chemistry with her son is chilling. Its what you don’t see that makes you grateful but even what you do does make you wonder what did make Kevin go on a killing spree at his school?

Come on! We grew up with Harry Potter, and the Hogwarts crew. This is such a fitting, and powerful finale, I know I’m not the only one to include it in my top picks.

No, not an ‘action’ flick – but a quiet film about a guy who likes to drive. He lives to drive and drives to live. He mixes with a bad sort, but generally on a very short term basis. Until it becomes personal. Amazing.

Like Crazy is a younger version of Blue Valentine. An intensely raw look at young love and knowing when to let go. Or not.

I’m a nerd. I don’t know if I’ve told you this. But in different ways, where I really love to learn about new things, and just how things ‘work’.
Lately, I am loving the website Basenotes. Fragrances have honestly always boggled my mind. I simply cannot really comprehend all the scents that comprise a perfume – I can’t comprehend what freesia will smell like once paired with gardenia, or pear. There are so many perfumes on the market, high end designers, fragrance houses, and ‘celebrities’ that it can be quite overwhelming. How do you know what to look for? Surely, its not all about the bottle? Its not all about whether you like a celebrity or not. How do you decide? ]

First; you should start off with a scent you know you love. Vanilla is mine. I know, sounds rather…. Vanilla, right? You thought I’d say Clementine, or Rose, or… God, I don’t know Turkish Rose, right? Nope. Vanilla – whether it be in food, candles, ANYTHING! So I start with that and look at perfumes that contain vanilla as a bottom note – as from what I learnt from the interwebs, the bottom note is the longest lasting note – that once it dries down, and settles into your skin, this will be the highlight of the scent. The top note is what you smell straight away, but might blend into that powerful bottom note once it blends.

For instance; currently I’m loving my 10ml sample bottle of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers ‘Music’ – as it has top notes of ‘Clementine & Sparkling Pear’, with base notes of ‘vanilla, skin musk and sleek woods’ – honestly I’m not sure ‘skin musk’ is something I like, or just a typo!
I love that you can type in a scent, or a base note which you favour and you can then find other scents you’d most likely… like sprayed on ‘yo self – and thus don’t have to spray up a environmental-damaging storm at your nearest fragrance counter! The Fragrance Directory has become my new best friend – and wishlist builder..

You may remember on my Revlon Night Out – I went to Rock of Ages with my sister, and it was a BLAST! Honestly, I was surprised but I don’t even think my love of rock power ballads is a guilty pleasure. Its just pure pleasure! It was quite risqué, but the comedy and humour genuinely balanced it out nicely so it wasn’t girls in bikinis purely for the sake of boobs and ass.

But, now there is a movie. Film adaptations of stage musicals are always hit and miss, in my opinion and this, well I’m not convinced. Especially with Tom Cruise and that wig. Might as well have hired Nicolas Cage. I’m just wincing a little bit to be honest.. You?
