What has the world come to?

Just when I think Buffy or Angel may be as ‘nerdy’ as I go (though for the longest time, I thought everyone watched those shows!) I have become somewhat hooked on a show that I think may have completely tainted me as a nerd.

A friend of mine was giving away DVDs and box sets that he no longer needed (only to save space, after he’d copied them to his hard drive) and thus I had a bit of a squee bonanza in grabbing some DVDs I wouldn’t have thought to buy but either myself or family/friends would love.

Then I saw the Dr Who box sets. I know these cost a pretty penny (well, anything from BBC is expensive here) so I suggested he sell them on Ebay. Rather than give them away, because I know it has such a following. Then I hesitantly asked; what is all the fuss about? So.. this guy, travels through time? In a phone box? What else? He suggested I watch a particular episode.. and the addiction began.
After that first episode (from Season 3) I had to begin from the start. And no, definitely not the 70s version! Whilst I was a snuffle-upagus with a cold yesterday, I pushed the nerdiest DVD into my DVD player, ever.

Starting with Christopher Eccleston and ole Billie Piper (Cos we want to!) and I’m loving it! Although the ‘aliens’ are quite imaginative (the first episode had walking store mannequins) and a subsequent episode had fake pig-headed aliens. No really, they had pig heads. Talk about swine! But the quirkiness of the Doctor’s character alone, the fantasy element in travelling through time and space, as well as the human elements of the bond between Doctor and Rose Tyler . I’m loving it.
I already feel like my DNA has changed. Will people know? Will they see that now I’ve watched Dr Who? Is it plastered across my forehead like the guilty pleasure of enjoying the High School Musical series?

I have to take comfort in that now, my absolute no-go shows are Battlestar, or any of the Stargate series. THEN.. that’ll be the ultimate dark side! What TV shows equate to your dark side?

Oh but Battlestar is the most amazing show ever. Seriously. I avoided it for so long, but when I finally sat down to see what the fuss was all about, I was hooked. Stargate, I don't get. I like Dr Who, but I haven't watched it from start to finish or anything.

I'm worried now.. got told if I'm really loving Dr Who (and I'm up to season 2!) then I'll like Battlestar too. *gulp*

Yay!! Another Who fan! I also thought it was for nerds until I watched an episode and then the whole new Who series. Who opened my eyes to a whole new genre of TV and I love it!

I have watched a lot of Stargate (including Atlantis) due to ex boyfriends and my brother. While I didn't mind them, I would have rather been watching something else. I have yet to watch BSG.

If I start watching Star Trek and all it's spin offs, that would be my ultimate dark side.

I'm already up to season 2 now! I'm flying through it! (And I've been given all the box sets, so.. kinda spoilt)

I'd say Stargate (SG-1, at least) is sci-fi with humour that doesn't get sledgehammered into the show quite so painfully as in Dr. Who. And BSG's just depressing.

Still, at least you're heading in the right direction!

Just when I thought you couldn't get any cuter! Nerd IS the new Cool, don't forget it!
Just wait until you get to the David Tennant/Catherine Tate episodes!!!

*laughing* Well I'm now into season 2.. David Tennant is quickly growing on me (I was defiantly thinking I couldn't say goodbye to Christopher Eccleston).. and I'm not sure I can let go of Billie Piper when that episode comes around!
  • What do you mean everyone didn't watch Buffy? They totally did. They just think they're cool now ;P
  • Kimberley
I am so not ashamed of my love for Buffy and Angel and Roswell and other such shows :P

I am very worried about this level of nerdiness..! Though I'm loving all the accents in this show! :P
  • I have to admit that I've only watched the very occasional episode of the current Doctor Who seasons, but I'm thinking perhaps there is more value for me to find in the episodes... perhaps I'll go back and revisit the seasons more completely...
