Offering a new Impression…ism.

Look, I’m not an NCIS fan, but I do like a bit of Michael Weatherly, and Pauley Perrette seems like one cool cookie, and this is another reason why.

In a magazine spread for CBS’ Watch! magazine – Pauley gives a fashionable second impression of several famous Impressionist paintings. My favourite out of the five pieces would be the one above – Edouard Manet’s Berthe Morisot with a Fan. How stunning does she look?

The spread was taken at the Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris, France – and how could you not be inspired by the city of food, fashion and art? Editor-in-chief Jeremy Murphy thought that with Pauley’s character being known solely to be the Abby, the geek-nerd/science gal of NCIS, though with a modelling past – would stand out even more with these new representations of Impressionist masterpieces.

Just Quickly: The Emmys 2010

I love awards season. I love it as much as it frustrates me, because there are just shows I haven’t managed to watch, and so when there are these ‘new’ shows winning awards (Breaking Bad and Mad Men, I’m looking at you) I’m shocked by them – frustrated that a) I have no informed opinion on whether they ‘deserve’ it or not. (As I write that out, I realise how conceited it sounds.. ew) and b) in regards to yesterday’s event – the big snub = Lost. The final season.

Can we talk about this? Lost has been arguably the most iconic show of recent years. Iconic because, it was the most intricately layered storyline.. ever? Kinda? For sure. Certainly not everyone understood it, but should it have been something to be ‘understood’? But it was still the show most discussed, most argued over, joked about show that you didn’t need to be watching – in order to be a part of a discussion. Yet, how even in its final season – did it still get snubbed for Emmy awards? We still have the Golden Globes. (And I’m not even what you’d class as a ‘Lostie’!)

As for the host Jimmy Fallon, I honestly wasn’t sure HOW entertaining he’d be, especially compared to crowd favourite Neil Patrick Harris – but he was the ultimate fanboy, representin’. That opening number with a few Gleeks, as well as Jorge Garcia, Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Nina Dobrev and Betty White.. was SO joyful, and hilarious – especially with the surprise of Kate Gosselin making fun of herself? Very surprising!

Cue to the musical montage of ‘shows that are no longer with us’ with Jimmy Fallon paying tribute to 24, Law & Order and Lost.. by mimicking Elton John, Boyz II Men, and Green Day. Hysterical. I still have a bit of a cold, and giggle-fits soon turned into coughing fits just watching this particular segment!

Fashion wise, no real disasters, yet at the same time – no real standouts. I absolutely love Anna Paquin’s dress (with new husband and ASKARS) How much fun are they having?! Sigh. Completely jealous.

Aside from Jimmy Fallon’s fun-loving fanboy hosting, and the Lost snub – what were your favourite (or not so much) moments during the Emmys? What were your favourite celebrity looks?

Sizzlin’ Hot Redheads (that aren’t political)

Much has been said this week about the political ‘spill’ (no oil included, I promise) here in Australia and how a) we have a new Prime Minister, and oh she’s female and b) she’s a redhead. Or a ‘ranga’ as colloquially given. (Short for orang-utan) Its been intensely annoying, and its saturated our media on so many levels – I’ve had enough! Really. Priorities, people. Redheads on TV lately – have been saaah-mokin’ hot. And here are 3 examples.

Christina Hendricks – She puts the va-va-voom into Mad Men and gives office managers something to aspire to!

Deborah Ann Woll – Sired by Bill by force in True Blood last season, she’s innocent little sheltered girl turned vampire seductress (with her heart belonging to Hoyt) and she is turning heads!

Karen Gillan – the Doctor’s companion, and all-round sassy Scottish lass who has a penchant for uber-short mini skirts (not always dressed for Rio..)

I could reel off a few more, but I don’t want to bombard you with a ginger brigade. ;)

Croaky Dave tends to a bruised Jen Garner

I am such a fan of Jennifer Garner; SUCH a fan. It probably began with her portrayal of Sydney Bristow in Alias but I had seen her  before that, when she played Hannah in Felicity. (Oh, remember that show?!) So easily, she is my favourite actress, Idon’t think she can play a bad part, I don’t think she can take a bad photo – but check her out above!

Last night, she appeared on David Letterman to promote her new film with Matthew McConaughey Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Not only was Dave unwell, and particularly croaky – enough so that he quit halfway through the monologue to give the rest of the monologue’s delivery to his cue-card guy Tony Mendez. (Surprisingly witty, dry and did a great job!) Even the Top 10 list of the night was read out by Paul Shaffer (I seriously do not find him amusing… ever).

Poor Dave could barely hold any sort of pitch; and so when Jennifer was introduced, she walked in, mug in hand with a teabag sitting inside, and a bit of milk! Straight away, she sat down, and began preparing the tea for him. “You are a wreck, Dave!” They started chatting, all about having her second daughter Seraphina, and how Violet (Jen & Ben’s first daughter) had suddenly began saying the name Sarah as a choice, and they decided, what? No? She’s not deciding, she’s a baby! But when they found Seraphina to mean angel in several languages, Hebrew, Italian, German.. etc – they agreed on that name.

Dave complimented Jennifer, and said if she entered a ‘Best Face’ competition, she’d win, year upon year, upon year. And she was like Oh DAVE! And she made a trademark Jennifer Garner goofy face (trademark if you have ever seen any Alias blooper reel) fluttering her eyelashes and just being damn adorable. Dave then wanted to introduce a clip for the movie, and Jen didn’t respond for a second, and she giggled saying oh I was lost in the compliment, nobody’s flirted with me for years! What? Married to Ben Affleck?!

After the clip was played, Dave noticed the ugly scabs looking a bit worse for wear on her knees, and elbow, and somehow.. just had a bit of salve/ointment, and immediately starts tending to them, rubbing them in for her. She obediently held out her elbow so he could get some on there too. He so helpfully says, well leave that on, then it will come off in the shower, put some back on. She took the ointment, and put it down her dress!

Cutest interview EVER – especially when she talks about Violet’s reaction to the fall. And just because I had to share.. check out the video below:

Don’t forget to rate the post, and comment. :)

Oscar Couture favourites

Here are my three picks for most stunning of the evening; thankfully there wasn’t a standout *gasp* horror type dress, though they all seemed to play it safe. Amanda Seyfried seemed to be the brightest in crimson on the red carpet. Alicia Keys looked pretty, but the magenta HELLO LOOK AT ME shade of her dress was a bit too much – in contrast to the other actresses. Angelina played it safe with her standard black – but I did love her jade earrings. And Brad as her accessory. Awww, I don’t mean that.

All in all, the foofy chiffon look s

eemed to be back – but still, for the most part elegance reined.

Here are my three favourites: Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman, and Marisa Tomei. Stunning, classic but contemporary.

I’m delirious, are you serious?

I was here. In the audience, up the front.. to the right, of this very performance last Sunday night. (Even if you squint, you won’t catch me lol). It was SUCH a good night, and I’m sure you’ll hear my squeals during certain parts, I’m good like that. Enjoy!

Guess what, Sammy? Mom is a babe… I’m going to Hell.

Young Mama Winchester and Dean

Although the Winchester boys have always been on the hunt for the   Yellow Eyed Demon (YED) to avenge their mother’s death; there has never been too much insight into who Mama Winchester was, and the relationship between John and Mary. This episode gives that insight, and so much more. Possibly because I am spoiler free when it comes to Supernatural, I never expected all of the answers that would be given, in the form of a Supernatural time travel episode, thanks to Castiel – the angel providing Dean with secret missions. (A mission notably not known to Sam at this point)

This episode is a Sam-less episode, albeit for a 1 minute clip of him driving off with Ruby, to a place, or path unknown. Sam is then transported to a place where Sonny & Cher haven’t broken up, where he meets John Winchester; his father, before he had children. There’s some great comic moments, one of which I share in the subject line, and another where Dean in 1973 is Dean Van Halen, not being able to say that he’s a future Winchester.

The flashback is generally an area that gets done so much *cough*Lost*cough*, and I’m sure viewers are more skeptical about use of the flashbacks, especially in such liberal form – but here, they serve a necessary insight, for Dean after 4 years when Papa Winchester first disappeared.

Its such a new character depth for Dean, we’ve always known his tough, macho ‘tail-chasing’ exterior was a front for just a family devotion unparalleled, but here we get to watch him – as he watches the love between his teenage parents. We learn that back in the day, John Winchester was a good decent guy, not likely to ever be a hunter – until he met Mary.

One of the revelations of the episode is that Mary, and her family were hunters, and Mary wanted to get out of the family business – until she met the YED. In a great supporting role, is Walter Skinner, er I mean Mitch Pileggi, starring as Dean’s grandfather, and Mary’s father, a cynical old school hunter, who is almost Dean’s personality match. To tell you more about how the events of Dean’s visit to 1973 would only ruin it – but I might say this could be one of the best episodes of Supernatural. No offence, Jared Padalecki.

Kate Walsh rockin’ Letterman

Kate Walsh ready for Letterman

Kate Walsh ready for Letterman

Just had to quickly post this lovely photo of Kate Walsh all glammed up for her interview with Letterman to promote the 2nd season of Private Practice, continuing her role as Dr Addison Montgomery. I just had to quickly blog this, as I love her darker hair, the dress is stunning, and well..she’s become a new style icon for me.

Inaugural Couture of the Week

The effortless style of Sarah Wayne Callies

I haven’t yet spoken of my love for Prison Break but let’s just say the above actress, and her absence in Season 3 made it pretty unbearable to watch, whilst Michael was sweaty and sullen in Sona. But with her return in the new season, a new quest for the convicts of Fox River, I just had to have Sarah Wayne as my ‘Couture’ of the Week feature, the inaugural post!

From the first scenes with Wentworth, where she was trying to be cool, professional but approachable Dr. Tancredi, it soon ended up being Sara and Michael. Within no time, we were captivated with the chemistry between these two, known as ‘MiSa’ in the shipper world. It didn’t matterwhat Michael was doing, it didn’t matter that he was soon to escaping Fox River, and no matter that his original quest was to save his brother from execution, soon it was his subconscious goal to be with Sara at all costs, and save her when she inadvertantly became involved in his escape. It’s been said that it was the fans that played a large part in Sarah’s return to the show in Season 4, and its one of the major reasons I’ve returned too!
