*squee* Another video clip I’ve been super excited to see – and who knew?! We saw her at the World Cup in home country South Africa, and now – here Charlize Theron is in Brandon Flowers’ first solo venture, in his Crossfire video clip. I. LOVE it. Certainly less avant garde and wacky than a Killers’ video clip but more cinematical and action packed with Charlize throwing a mean ninja star, in this he almost reminds me of a darker version of Ryan Phillippe. What do you think?
Open a new tab, turn up your speakers, and read on.. Today’s post is brought to you by the song ‘I Am’ – from Christina Aguilera’s upcoming album Bionic. A beautiful mid-tempo songs about recognising the layers and traits, strengths and weaknesses we each have that make us who we are.
But I’m not going to go all deep and philo-ma-sophical on you here and tell you my feelings. Well, I will. But through TV, and movies, and music. Please do share your own quirks! ;)
1) I am.. the type to fall for every ‘heart-throb’ that is on any show, or any movies. The characters that are too good to be true, even if they do silly things (I’m looking at you Jesse St James) I can’t switch off the eyes-glazed-heart-beating-fast puppy-love.
2) Along with number 1, I coined the term ‘squimper’. A squeal plus a whimper. The squeal of excitement, delight, surprise along with a whimper of the realisation that I just fell in love/lust/high school crush. SQUIMPER. Spread the word.
3) I am..the type to associate a song with a movie or TV show forever after if it plays at any time. Any time I hear a song, I’ll remember the exact scene it played in. Remember 13 Going On 30 (annoying re-named to Suddenly 30 in Australia) – how can you not hear Michael Jackson’s Thriller without visualising Jennifer Garner doing the dance?!
4) I am..not a talker at the cinema, you won’t hear me answering my phone, and I’ll always try to open my choc-top in the quiet explodey moments of a film (or something equally noisy) but you will hear me gasp, or whimper in the cute romantic moments, or squeak a bit (well, trying to hold back a shriek watching a horror movie is hard – a squeak comes out!).
5) I am..always wondering how I can get smokey eyes like Charlize Theron’s in Hancock, or hair like Buffy’s in season 2 (not season 4), and wishing I could look as glamorous as ANY actress, at their worst – you know how Jen Garner, and Sarah Michelle Gellar look AMAZING even when they cry? EPIC ENVY.
So.. what quirky traits will you own up to? Leave a comment, or post it on your blog!

On the 1st day of June, via Larry King of all talk shows, Lady Gaga gave a sneak peek of her upcoming music video for her single ‘Alejandro’, which she says “It is a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community, my admiration of their bravery, their love for one another and their courage in their relationships.”
In listening to it, it reminds me of Madonna’s La Isla Bonita meets Ace of Base’s Don’t Turn Around – while immediately with this mini preview – I can see a visual homage to Madonna’s 1990 video for ‘Vogue’ (recently covered by Sue Sylvester in Glee!). Madonna must be absolutely proud of her pop cultural impact but she should watch her back. Lady Gaga has only been in the public eye for a less than 18 months..
Are you excited, and do you think this can top her success with ‘Telephone’?
Its all about Bieber fever around the Southern Hemisphere lately (as well as Bieber-hate, which frankly I just don’t get especially as it stems from those that don’t even *know* who he is, or the fact that they aren’t in his demographic at all… but that’s a whole other post)
You might have thought that Justin Bieber was the only singer that sang on YouTube to the world’s most interactive audience. Whilst Lily Allen rose to fame via Myspace, you still had to be a friend to add comments, or interact with her – but with YouTube – its all out there, warts and all, thumbs up, thumbs down, comments and video responses and so forth. The audience decides if you’re good or not.
A lesser known singer that you would have heard on the radio (just not known who it was) is Esmee Denters a Dutch teenager who covered pop songs by Justin Timberlake, OneRepublic, or Alicia Keys on YouTube and grew such an audience, given coverage by the Dutch press, that she became Justin Timberlake’s first signing to his record label Tenman Records. (Rumour has it he also wanted Bieber, but Usher got to him first)
You would have heard her album’s title track ‘Outta Here‘ but not realised it. Here is her latest single ‘Love Dealer’ with JTimberlake himself. Give her a go; she’s got a smooth pop/r & b voice and her album is a great listen, fused with some sexy Justin Timberlake moments.
And for laughs.. Esmee and Bieber had a Youtube reunion here
Still in a musical mood, or lyrical – and somehow inspired by watching a program on best sporting anthems, I couldn’t get past the beauty of the Liverpool FC fans singing along to You’ll Never Walk Alone (skip to 30 seconds in). Even if you weren’t a supporter, the beauty of the unison with the crowd singing it – makes it even more beautiful.
I then thought about live bands that to me, are synonymous with a great crowd singalong.
For your listening and viewing pleasure, I give you Coldplay and Fix You (live at BBC in 2008)
Comment with a link to what you think are the best songs to sing along to, with a great crowd backup!
Forgive me readers, for I have sinned. Its been several days since I last blogged, and I’m feeling it! In more ways than one – but believe me, I have been busy. This weekend that is now just finishing, I have been educated. In Beauty. I was given the opportunity to visit Salon Melbourne thanks to Sassi Sam and sat in on a Rae Morris workshop where my mind was blown, brain was expanded, and I took copious notes just trying to ensure that I never, ever smile when I apply blush ever again. (I’ll explain why in a future post!)
Before I tell you all the fun stuff that I experienced, all the cool people I met, and all the products I now have to try and experience – I thought I’d share with you a running playlist I have in the works. All work, all blogging and no exercise makes this pop couturist a chubby gal, and I can’t have that happen! I still want a figure like Beyonce, I still want curves but I need to be fit, and not huff and puff like a fairytale piggy.
I needed some appropriately lyrical songs with just the right beat to motivate me.
Such as..
Shake Ya Ass – by Mystikal
Imma Be – Black Eyed Peas
My Humps – Black Eyed Peas
X Gon Give It To Ya – DMX
Bootylicious – Destiny’s Child
Rock This Party – Bob Sinclar
Rock Your Body – Justin Timberlake
Stronger – Britney Spears
This list is still under construction.. what song/s would you add to it to get you jogging/running?
How excited am I now that Glee is within earshot, is within reach of returning after the super long hiatus. The ‘Road to Sectionals’ DVD has also just been released, and so here I share with you but a couple of the sneak peeks to the April 13th (U.S network Fox) return. Enjoy!
Wow! Big week for music! Is it just me or do other people anticipate clever music clips? I’ve always loved the video clip aspect of a song – if its something I’ve been waiting for, and then the release date for a video clip is released- it really is like a mini movie. I always wonder if there will be a celebrity cameo – will it be cinematic, or a dance type clip, or hmm.. completely outlandish with nothing to do with the song? *cough* Gaga *cough*
After seeing the ‘Carry Out’ teaser clip on YouTube – I was SO excited. I highly suggest you watch it – because its so telling. There were critics of Justin singing such a song containing ‘Take my order because your body like a carry out’ or ‘There’s a whole lot of you and a side of me’. The lyrics are fantastically ridiculous, and Timbaland is always quite suggestive (though not sleazy) with his lyrics, and mostly playful. Carry Out has the most cheesy, but cutesy food related lyrics in this song (as my subject line suggests). Plus, when Timbaland and Timberlake are together – its FIRE.
Cannot. Stop. Watching! (Also, loving his collaboration with Katy Perry on If We Ever Meet Again and the first single from Shock Value Part 2 with SoShy and Nelly Furtado called Morning After Dark – just in case you were in a Timbaland-musical-mood!)
Big call, I know. But this video clip is EPIC. Absolutely, jaw-dropping, risque, insane (not just in costume) but the grand concept and ridiculousness of this 9 plus minutes is just.. I am lost for words.
Gaga’s costume choices, as well as parts where she directly addresses those rumours about her being a hermaphrodite are bold, blunt and in your face. She doesn’t CARE. A direct homage to Thelma and Louise, and perhaps Quentin Tarantino, I’m sure Mr QT will want to cast Gaga in his next flick. Him, or Eli Roth.
Beyonce looks like a cross between Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell and has such a wonderful chemistry with Gaga – I never saw that coming! This..
Man. I’m late to Gaga/Honey B Telephone party -but I had to just get this out. This has to be the new Thriller – no other video I can think of comes close. What do you think?
JQ (Just Quickly) Tonight on TV for some reason, there are sappy movies back to back: The Wedding Planner *swoon* and The Wedding Date (hello, Dermot Mulroney singing Air Supply’s All Out of Love Nekkid? I’m there)
Anywho, in this sappy mood, as well as being inspired by a twitter friend reeling over 90s pop songs – this is the ultimate happy ecstatic ‘I’m in love’ song. Plus, nothing says love than the abundance of colour she wears in this clip. Its fun, footloose, and how I envisage I’ll be feeling when that day comes. If I don’t turn into a nanna spinster first!
